Give Online
One of the misnomers of the Christian life is we are to be faithful with 10% of our income by giving to the church. The truth is we are to be faithful with 100% of our income to the Kingdom. That means our home is to be used for Kingdom purposes. Our cars are to be used for Kingdom purposes. Our discretionary income is to be used for Kingdom purposes. That doesn’t mean giving it all away. It means we use our resources to display the grace of God through Jesus Christ with all that we have.
Why Give?
Jesus had a lot to say about money. In fact, he spoke about money as much as did love, prayer and faith combined. The way we use our money and possessions unveils what we truly value and what we truly believe. Jesus taught in Matthew 6.19 that what we treasure most should be eternal; those things that never fade or rust or deteriorate. Stuff on earth we spend our money on will all be gone one day. By investing in eternal things we send our treasure ahead of us into eternity.
Your Heart Matters
There’s a lot of discussion about what the New Testament teaches about tithes and offerings. The Hebrew word for “tithe” literally means 10%. But the question a follower of Christ should never be “how much do I have to give.” II Corinthians 9.6-7 have some profound things to say on this matter: Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. That means it’s a tremendous blessing to give, particularly when it’s done with the right motive and spirit — out of a love for Christ and His gospel and a desire to see it spread.
